The Briton finished third at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday

Lewis Hamilton has insisted he isn't 'second guessing' his decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari, despite the Silver Arrows' recent improvement.

Hamilton confirmed he would be swapping sides earlier this year, sending shockwaves through the Formula 1 world in the process.

Ferrari have outperformed Mercedes in recent years but the Silver Arrows, over the past few weeks, have improved.

Hamilton finished fourth, with George Russell third, at the Canadian Grand Prix at the start of the month.

And the seven-time F1 champion clinched third on the podium on Sunday as Max Verstappen won the Spanish Grand Prix.

Hamilton has now been asked whether he's been 'second guessing' his move to Ferrari, having believed the grass would be greener.

But the Briton was keen to insist that wasn't the case.

“No, not at all. I mean, firstly, I love Mercedes,” he said.

“I've been with Mercedes since I was 13 and I'll always be a fan and supporter of Mercedes.

"And my job this year, right now, is to work as hard as I can with the crew that I have, with the people back at the factory to try and move and develop the car in the right direction.

“And so ultimately, whatever course and trajectory the team is on for next year, for example, there are things that I've hopefully been a part of and be proud of being a part of.

"My job will start next year at the other team who I think are doing a great job.

“I think they've had a couple of difficult races, but let's not forget they had a race win in Monaco.

"I can't tell you. what is wrong with their car and why they are in the position they're in today.

“But they did bring an upgrade here, and I think they are definitely progressing.

"So yeah, but it doesn't make me second guess my decision at all.”

Hamilton also expressed a belief that Mercedes must continue to make changes in order to close the gap on Red Bull.

“No, I think that's the maximum it's got at the moment,” continued the Stevenage-born racer.

“But I mean, we're always fine-tuning it with subtle changes that we make.

"So we are always fine-tuning it when we continue to tune it through the year.

“But we need to bolt some stuff on, some extra bits to be able to compete with these guys.”

Speaking on Sunday, meanwhile, Hamilton rued a bad start to the race in Spain.

Both Verstappen and Lando Norris finished ahead of the Briton, who is yet to win a race in three years.

And Hamilton thought things would have been different if he'd been able to perform better at the start of the event in Barcelona.

"It has been a good day, a solid weekend," he said.

"I have to say a big thank you to the team as they have been training so hard.

"The strategy and the pitstops were really on point.

"Unfortunately I got a really bad start and lost ground to the Ferraris so it was a battle to get back.

"With a better start... I don't know if we could have held on to the guys ahead but I don't think we would have been as far behind."
