Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc should be punished by Ferrari for the way they interacted with their Ferrari engineers last weekend.

That's according to former F1 star Ralf Schumacher, who believes Fred Vasseur must take action to reel the duo in.

Last weekend was one to forget for Ferrari, with both Hamilton and Leclerc toiling at the Australian Grand Prix.

The Briton clashed with Riccardo Adami, even telling the engineer to 'leave him to it' at one stage in the race.

As for Leclerc, the 27-year-old had a similarly heated exchange with Xavier Marcos Padros as he was forced to settle for eighth.

Schumacher, speaking to Backstage in the Pit Lane, has now criticised the pair and called on Ferrari to take action as the Chinese Grand Prix rapidly approaches.

"It was like that with both of them," he said.

"Not only Hamilton, but also Charles Leclerc was relatively stroppy on the radio.

"If I were the team principal right now, I'd call them both into my office and give them both a rap on the knuckles because that's not on.

'At the end of the day, the whole team is sitting out there doing nothing but trying to help the two out there.

"And if they're also being stroppy, then I have to say that's not on.

"You can say, 'please, right now is [a] bad [time to talk to me on the radio]'."

Hamilton and Leclerc have, however, defended the way they conducted themselves last weekend.

Speaking earlier this week, Hamilton said: "Go and listen to the radio calls with others and their engineers – far worse.

"The conversation that Max [Verstappen] has with an engineer over the years, the abuse that the poor guy's taken and you never write about it, but you wrote about the smallest little discussion I had with mine.

"Ultimately, we're literally just getting to know each other, so afterwards I'm like, 'Hey bro, I don't need that bit of information but if you want to give me this, this is the place I'd like to do it.

"'This is how I'm feeling in the car and, at these points, this is when I do and don't need the information.'

"That's what it's about. There are no issues, it's done with a smiley face and we move forwards."

Leclerc, meanwhile, defended himself by saying: "It was an inside joke. But obviously nobody could understand it from the outside. It is something with my engineer.

"We understood where it was coming from. It was coming from the drinks. So obviously I had zero drink and I was wet, but that's fine."
