The 39-year-old confirmed he'd be leaving the Silver Arrows at the start of the month

Lewis Hamilton has taken to social media to show off his new haircut as the new F1 season creeps closer.

The Briton is currently spending some time in Brazil as he looks to secure a record eighth Formula One title this year.

Hamilton has taken to Instagram to share images of himself in South America.

And the 39-year-old displayed his new copper, frizzy hairdo in a series of snaps on the social media platform - having opted to ditch his trademark braids.

All eyes will be on the Briton this season, especially after he confirmed he'd be leaving the Silver Arrows at the start of the month for Ferrari.

Hamilton has failed to win a race over the past two years, with fierce rivals Red Bull dominating the sport instead.

Max Verstappen was unstoppable last term, winning 19 of the 22 races as he cruised to a third straight F1 crown.

And whether Hamilton can close the gap on the 26-year-old this time around is something only time will tell.

It is currently unclear who will replace Hamilton at the end of the campaign.

Carlos Sainz is one option, with Hamilton set to take the 29-year-old's seat at Ferrari when he links up with his new team next year.

However, ex-F1 team owner Eddie Jordan believes Sebastian Vettel could come out of retirement to fill in for Hamilton.

Vettel announced his retirement from the sport in 2022.

Jordan, speaking on the Formula for Success podcast, raised the idea by saying: “I have to say, in the short term, I would look at Vettel.

“Because we know these cars are not as difficult to drive as in your day, in my day, when you needed a neck the size of a wine barrel.

“It’s just ridiculous, the cars are not as difficult and that’s why you have the longevity. That’s why you have [Fernando] Alonso being able to continue and that’s why you have the much older drivers.”

Jordan also thinks Hamilton is ditching Mercedes because he's unsure of their credentials.

"Perhaps this is also because Lewis simply sensed that he had no chance of winning the world championship with this car," he added.

"And he probably had that feeling at the beginning of 2023, but then the tide turned over the course of the season and Hamilton found his former passion for racing.

"All of us suddenly had the certainty - oh, Lewis still has it after all.

"At the end of the day, I think the way Hamilton pulled out of the 2023 season against George Russell is the reason why he's going to Ferrari."

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff, meanwhile, insists he harbours no bad feelings towards Hamilton for his decision.

“In the future we will discuss whether this could have been done in a different way but I hold no grudge,” Wolff said.

“Having slept a few nights on it, it means our professional journey comes to an end, but it doesn’t mean that our personal relationship ends.

“I’ve found a friend, we’ve built a relationship over the last 10 years and he faced a very, very difficult situation, taking a decision of where to drive, maybe for the first time in 10 years without being able to brainstorm with me, and therefore I will always respect the difficulty of the situation that he faced.”

He added: “We’ve been very conscious in signing the contract that it could happen. Maybe the timing was a surprise.

“We’re big boys, we knew that by signing a short-term contract, it could be of benefit for both sides.

"We couldn’t commit for a longer period. And he’s taken the option to exit.

"So we totally respect that you can change your mind. There’s different circumstances.”
