Lewis Hamilton fears Mercedes decision has already put him on the back foot at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton has expressed concerns that Mercedes' decision to block his early move to Ferrari could hamper his start with the Italian team next season.
The seven-time world champion, who will join Ferrari for the 2025 season, had hoped to test their car during post-season testing in Abu Dhabi.
However, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has prevented Hamilton from making an early switch, insisting he fulfils his contractual obligations until December 31.
"It definitely delays the process and makes the start of the year harder," Hamilton admitted, as he prepares for his final two races with Mercedes.

Ferrari had earmarked Hamilton for an end-of-season test in Abu Dhabi following the final race of the season.
The plan was blocked by Mercedes, with Hamilton required to complete sponsorship commitments in December.
"I know Fred [Vasseur] wanted it to happen," Hamilton said.
The British driver admitted to having mixed feelings about the potential early test.
"For me, I was in two minds. Driving the red car for the first time in Abu Dhabi didn't excite me. In a perfect world you would drive it and not be seen," he added.
Hamilton acknowledged the contractual situation with Mercedes, stating: "I don't think it would have been allowed, even if I asked, because I am contracted with the team until December 31. That is totally fine."

The 39-year-old recognised the impact of missing out on early testing opportunities with Ferrari.
"But am I missing out on something? For sure," Hamilton said, reflecting on the consequences of the delayed transition.
Hamilton will now have to wait until pre-season testing in February next year in Bahrain before stepping into the Ferrari for the first time.
Despite the testing setback, Hamilton remains focused on ending his Mercedes career positively.
"I woke up this morning and Toto and I were texting and we want to finish on a high," Hamilton said.
"All I want is that we give it our absolute all, which I know we will," he added.
