Not since Wayne Rooney have England had a talent like Jude Bellingham, a player whose greatness is already on display at such a tender young age.
Now it's about making sure they continue to get the best of the 20-year-old as they look to win a first trophy since the World Cup in 1966.
Bellingham is in the form of his life. Given his young age, a move to Real Madrid could have been daunting for him.
Many top players have cowed in the unforgiving arena of the Santiago Bernabeu. Even former England heroes of yesteryear David Beckham and Michael Owen performed their best football elsewhere, instead of in Spain.

Yet Bellingham has been spurred onto greater heights since touching down from Borussia Dortmund and, after starring for England against Scotland on Wednesday night, the sky is the limit.
Rooney was the last player comparable to the Real Madrid star. When he burst onto the scene, it was clear he'd go down as one of the best to ever wear the Three Lions' iconic white shirt.
His performances lit up the European Championships in 2004 and, had he not been injured against Portugal in the quarter-finals, perhaps England's trophy drought would be over already.
After that, it never quite happened for Rooney.
England failed to make it past the quarter-finals of a major tournament during his stint in the side and many look back on his international career with feelings of what could have been.
Fast-forward to now and Bellingham is a similar case.
He is, quite simply, a class act. A player performing at the peak of his powers with his opponents unable to stop him.
That was evident as England beat Scotland at a raucous Hampden Park on Tuesday evening, defeating their rivals and silencing the home crowd.
Bellingham had gone into the game as a player in the spotlight having dazzled for Real Madrid during his short spell in Spain so far.
And he continued his outstanding form in Scotland, driving his side to victory with a goal and an assist.
Bellingham scored England's second goal of the game and then turned to fans inside the ground with his arms outstretched.
It is becoming his trademark celebration and everybody laps it up. The best, after all, deserve to celebrate like the best.
And Bellingham was at his powerful, potent best as he provided the assist for Harry Kane's late goal to prevent a late Scotland comeback, too.
Gareth Southgate was delighted after the game, hailing his star man by saying: “He doesn’t have a point to prove to us, we know he is a really good player.
“Saturday was not his best game but we weren’t at the level we wanted to be and we knew he has a fantastic personality to come back from that.
“His performances have been outstanding and one performance isn’t going to change that.
“As an attacking eight, or where he played tonight, he looks to get into the box.
“Tonight his athleticism to press was so important. Scotland’s system is difficult to play against so we slightly changed our system and he did that well.”
England never won a trophy with Rooney.

With Bellingham, however, there's a sense things will be different. At the age of 20, there's no reason he can't become a great. Perhaps even the greatest, if the start to his career is anything to go by.
