The batter scored 140 during the match in India

Dawid Malan has blasted back at critics after shining for England in their Cricket World Cup win over Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old scored 140 runs from 107 balls, hitting 16 fours to help his side to victory.

England beat Bangladesh by 137 runs in the end to bounce back after losing to New Zealand on matchday one.

And Malan has now hit back at critics when it was asked whether he'd worked on his game against spin, with some believing that's a weakness.

"I don't know what it's down to but hopefully, it continues.

"Maybe a bit of hunger, I'm desperate to do well in this format and prove a point that I deserve to be in there."

England captain Jos Buttler also spoke out.

And he hailed Malan for his performance, while believing the Three Lions have what it takes to enjoy a successful tournament.

"I think it was a really good performance to bounce back from a disappointing first game and we still feel there are areas to improve," he stated.

"I thought it was a fantastic score on that pitch, it got harder towards the end but we could've got more at the back end.

"Some big partnerships at the start, excellent from Dawid Malan to take a lead.

"I think you're always looking for the perfect performance, the turnover from 30-40 we scored about 100 runs.

"That 30-40 period was very smart. There's not many times you come off and don't think there's many areas to improve which is great."

When asked about potentially rotating for the next match against Afghanistan, he continued: "It's going to be one of the challenges of the tournament, reading the pitch well and our options.

"The guys on the bench are great, we've got different options.

"Reece Topley was great today coming in and got big early wickets in the powerplay."

Bowler Reece Topley, who took four wickets, added: "It’s a step a right direction after New Zealand, which didn’t go to plan.

"It’s nice to play with a similar blueprint.

"Afghanistan in Delhi is likely to be more like their conditions than ours.

"If you’re going about it in the right way, when you’ve got talented players in the changing room, hopefully you’re on the right end of results.

"If you’re on the front foot, you can have an advantage straight away.

"The beauty of this World Cup is that different pitches will pose different challenges.

"There might be a different line-up in Delhi. It’s a squad effort.

"Everyone wants to play. When we are left out, it is how you respond. Getting those early wickets makes you feel like you belong again."

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, meanwhile, lamented his side's poor start to the match as they succumbed to defeat.

"It was colder weather than the last game, you could even see the snow," he said.

"That could have helped our bowlers, but we didn't start well enough. If you give them a sniff, they will always come hard.

"We had a good plan, but we couldn't execute. The ball swung nicely for five or six overs, but we couldn't land the ball often enough.

"They could have scored 380 or 390, but we restricted them well. 330 we might have fancied our chances, but we needed a good start and didn't get that."
