Scott Williams has brushed off concerns about Rob Cross's controversial gesture during their World Darts Championship second-round clash on Monday.

The world No. 37 defended his opponent after Cross made a lewd gesture towards the crowd during their match at Alexandra Palace.

"Firstly, I wasn't aware of anything. Secondly, regardless of what he did, I don't really care," Williams said after securing his victory.

The incident occurred while Cross, the 2018 world champion, was struggling during the match.

Sky Sports cameras caught Cross staring down the crowd before making a hand gesture, forming a loose grip with his right hand and raising it to his face.

The gesture, which involved moving his hand side to side while pushing his cheek out with his tongue, could potentially lead to disciplinary action from PDC chiefs.

Williams was keen to emphasise his close relationship with Cross despite the controversy.

"We had a chat beforehand; we had a chat afterwards. I love him; he's great. Regardless, we'll see each other today, over Christmas, and in the next couple of months," he explained.

The world No. 37 added: "But it's darts; you've got to do what you've got to do, and if the other person's giving it to you, you give it back."

Williams emerged victorious in the closely-fought contest, winning 3-1 to go through.
