Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler has spoken of his pride after his boyhood rugby league club renamed their stadium in his honour for one night on Friday.

The Halliwell Jones Stadium, home of Warrington Wolves, temporarily became The Luke Littler Stadium for their match against Catalan Dragons.

The 18-year-old PDC world champion, who has been a lifelong supporter of the club, was celebrated by his hometown team with the special tribute.

The gesture marked another milestone for the young darts star who has taken the sport by storm since his breakthrough in late 2023.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Littler expressed his delight at the honour.

"It means a lot. For myself, what I've done over the past 12, 18 months. The support from the lads and all the staff and everyone at Warrington Wolves. Tonight's going to be a very special night," he said.

The teenage champion explained his deep connection to the club: "This is where I grew up: it's the local rugby team."

"I've been here for years, in the south stand, cheering the boys on next to the drum. To have the stadium named after me for one night only, it's going to be a big night."

Littler attended the team's first game of the season on Sunday, where they secured a victory.

"I went to the first game of the season on Sunday and we got the win there. Hopefully I can bring the boys some more luck and we can get another one against Catalan," he said.

The darts champion spoke of his enjoyment being among the passionate supporters.

"It was just good to get out and be stood with all the crazy lot," Littler remarked.

The atmosphere at the renamed stadium promised to be one of the biggest yet, according to the teenage star.

Reflecting on his broader impact in darts, Littler acknowledged the growth of the sport since his emergence.

"It's been crazy, the amount of youngsters and academies that have started up and down the country, even across Europe," he said.

"The impact I've had on darts has been crazy."

When asked about the possibility of making the stadium naming permanent, Littler remained modest.

"I don't think it should ever happen, unless it does become a thing in a few years' time (by winning more world titles)," he said. "All teams have got sponsorship deals and obviously that's why it's named the Halliwell Jones now."
