Luke Littler has already taken the darts world by storm at the age of 18

Luke Littler has admitted he might have long retired before he even comes close to rivalling Phil Taylor's record of 16 World Darts Championship titles.

It comes weeks after he became the youngest world champion of all time when he beat Michael van Gerwen at the age of 17 in January.

But the Nuke has not stopped there and has already scooped the Grand Slam of Darts and the Premier League in a phenomenal year of darts in 2024.

After beating MVG for the World Championship, having reached the final the year before in his breakout tournament, there are many who believe that he could break Taylor's incredible record.

The Power's tally of 16 world titles has looked unassailable for years - Van Gerwen has the second-most titles with three.

But considering the fact that Taylor did not win his first title until he was 29 and the talent that Littler has shown, the teenager has been earmarked as the only one possible to finally best his record.

Though there is one man who does not reckon he will come close - Littler himself.

The youngster has admitted that he cannot see himself playing the sport past his 50th birthday and he could even retire 'tomorrow'.

"Michael van Gerwen said this in a different interview - once the fire goes out your belly, there's just no point in playing," he told PDC referee Huw Ware's Tops and Tales podcast.

"So if I say I'm going to continue playing darts for 30 years, well I could wake up tomorrow morning, the fire's gone out of my belly, and I wanna retire.

"I probably won't be playing at 50.

"It's just the way the sport's going. It's just growing, growing and growing.

"But yeah, obviously the one thing I do want to do, and I've said it numerous times, is win one of every major at least once."

Littler might not have long to wait until he has managed such a feat considering his meteoric rise in darts.

"Obviously, I've won a Pro Tour, a Euro Tour, the Premier League," he added.

"I've won the biggest one, the World Championship. I've won the World Series and the Grand Slam. So there's not much left."
