The 17-year-old won the showdown in the Netherlands on Saturday night

Luke Littler has admitted the boos and jeers of Dutch fans spurred him on as he beat Raymond van Barneveld at the World Series of Darts on Saturday night.

The teenager was too strong for his experienced rival, with the youngster winning 6-4 to advance to the third round of the competition.

Littler had previously beaten Van Barneveld at the World Darts Championship last year.

And 'The Nuke' produced another masterclass as he beat the Dutchman, who he's previously admitted was one of his childhood heroes growing up.

Littler was booed and jeered by the crowd on Saturday as he secured victory.

And the 17-year-old has admitted his hostile reception spurred him on as he set up a clash with Chris Dobey.

"I'm just very pleased to get over the line against Raymond and the incredible fans. Nothing bad to say about them," he said.

"The crowd really jeered me on and I had to play my best game.

"Raymond put me under pressure a few times but I took my shots.

"On the TV, in front of the lights, as everyone knows I don't like the Pro Tours which is behind closed doors with no fans.

"So when I do get on a stage I enjoy it and most of the time I do win!"

While Littler won the clash, Van Barneveld was left disappointed by his defeat.

He felt he played well during the showdown - but believes his rival is simply 'too good' at the current moment in time.

"Well, I played well. I enjoyed it," said the five-time world champion.

"Right now this gentleman is too good. He is so complete."

The darts icon is hopeful for the future, however, and believes his display sets him in good stead going forward.

"It was fantastic here in front of my own crowd, I'm grateful," he continued.

"It tastes like more. I'm playing 99 average. If I keep up this level, I'm going to make strides on the Pro Tour as well.

"I really believe in that."

Meanwhile, Luke Humphries is set to go up against Michael van Gerwen on Sunday in their quarter-final clash.

And Humphries has stoked the flames by saying he feels his rival isn't as 'dangerous' as he once was.

"If you're someone that's not playing Michael on the regular, you might fear the name and I probably would have done four or five years ago, when he was on his peak," he said.

"But you know, he's not as dangerous as he was then many years ago. That's no disrespect, he just isn't.

"The stats would back that up."
