The 18-year-old will be hoping to secure another nightly win in Manchester

Luke Littler is considering insuring his golden arm as he prepares to compete for a doubled £1 million World Championship prize this Christmas.

The 18-year-old phenomenon revealed he hasn't ruled out protecting his most valuable asset after the PDC announced the landmark increase to the winner's cheque.

"I have not got any insurance just yet. But I think that is a thought process to get some because anything can happen," Littler said.

The world number two acknowledged the stakes are higher than ever with such substantial prize money on the line.

"Playing in one competition for a £1million, it's going to be a different scenario, a different feeling," he added.

Any long-term injury could significantly impact Littler's earning capacity, with the Warrington teen having already banked more than £2million in combined prize money and commercial deals over the past 18 months.

If Littler does insure his arm, he would be following in the footsteps of one of his Manchester United heroes, David Beckham.

The football icon insured his legs for £78million ($100m) during his playing career to protect himself against the financial impact of a career-ending injury.

The comparison highlights just how valuable Littler's talents have become in such a short time.

His meteoric rise to stardom has transformed him into a global phenomenon since bursting onto the scene.

The teenager has been using a new set of equipment as he continues his professional journey.

Recent events have shown the importance of such precautions, with Michael van Gerwen pulling out of night 10 of the Premier League with a neck injury.

For Littler, protecting his future earning potential is becoming an increasingly important consideration.

Littler is now preparing for his Manchester homecoming match against Gerwyn Price, whom he hasn't defeated in a year.

The teenager has suffered six straight losses to the 40-year-old Welshman since last June, with his last victory coming in Liverpool in April 2024.

Despite this record, Littler insists there are no psychological scars about facing the Iceman again.

"Obviously I want to try and beat Gezzy. But I won't go on stage, saying to myself: 'You need to win this,'" he explained.

The match comes after a difficult night in Berlin where Littler was booed for being English and experienced what he described as a "head-loss moment" during his quarter-final exit to Chris Dobey.

He expects a warmer reception in Manchester, particularly from fellow United supporters given his well-known club allegiances.

Beyond seeking victory against Price, Littler has his sights set on making history in the Premier League.

He's aiming to secure a record fifth nightly win in this season's competition.

"I'm looking to try to go back-to-back in Manchester. I won there last year on my debut. Now I'm going back as the world champion," Littler said.

"I'm trying to get that fifth nightly win to break the record. I know there are loads of weeks to go. I want to try and get it done as quickly as possible."

The teenager expects an emotional return to the AO Arena.

"I'd probably say I'll feel goosebumps but I wouldn't say nerves because once you are on stage, the adrenaline will kick in. As I always do, I let my darts do the talking," he explained.

"Manchester is a very big city. Hopefully the support is there for me for Thursday."
