Luke Littler is in top form heading into next month's World Championships.

Luke Littler feels it's 'crazy' to think there are people are backing him to one day break Phil Taylor's incredible records in darts.

The 17-year-old darts sensation has enjoyed one of the most remarkable debut seasons as a professional with 10 senior titles.

He added the Grand Slam of Darts trophy to his growing haul last week in emphatic fashion and has taken that form into the Players Championship Finals this week.

Littler was given a tricky draw in the first round against world No 4 Rob Cross and there was a high standard on display from both players in the match.

Cross averaged over 100 in the match - the seventh-highest average of any player in the first round.

Unfortunately for the 2018 world champion, he came up against a Littler who found top gear by averaging an incredible 112.73 with a double percentage at 60.

The teen darts sensation is being tipped to one day dominate the sport like Taylor in his heyday.

Taylor himself has admitted Littler could very well snatch the records away from him.

"It's what the people think," Littler told Online Darts.

"Obviously recent performances show I should be favourite but I've just got to focus on the darts.

"It's crazy to think about trying to beat Phil Taylor's records of 16 World titles, the World Matchplay's he has won as well.

"But I guess I'll just have to keep on going for years and years."

Littler is now on an eight-game winning streak dating back to October and is the strong favourite to lift the Players Championship Finals trophy.

He added: "The players certainly don't show it but that first game of the Grand Slam I set a real statement saying I'm here to win and I'm just very happy to get off the mark again in round one.

"Winning any tournament coming into the next is always a big thing. Obviously winning the Grand Slam.

"My performances are good and my confidence is very high."

Littler was delighted to start his tournament in such resounding fashion against Cross on Friday night.

He now takes on Ritchie Edhouse next, who pulled off a sensational victory at last month's European Championships.

Littler said: "It's always good to start any major or any competition well.

"Obviously 6-0, 112 average and I like to look at the double percentage which is 60% which I'm happy with.

"But yeah just focus on tomorrow night (Saturday) now," said Littler to Online Darts.
