The 18-year-old is the poster boy for the sport - but not everybody is happy with his mercurial rise

Former darts star Vincent van der Voort has claimed there are too many 'Luke Littler fanboys' on the PDC tour - and that they should be replaced as a result.

Littler has become a household name over the past 15 months or so, establishing himself as one of the best players on the planet despite only being 18.

He has made a fine start to his Premier League title defence, having won four of the eight nights of action so far.

In addition to that achievement, Littler also became the youngest world champion in history when he won the World Darts Championship back in January.

Yet Van der Voort believes too many players on the tour are 'fanboys' of the youngster.

Discussing Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall, the Dutchman said: "Every little thing, they're giving him fist bumps or smiles."

Van der Voort then expressed a belief that compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode would up the ante if he was playing in the Premier League.

He also revealed he'd rather watch his countryman, instead of Littler.

"Compared to some of the players in [the Premier League] now, I'd much rather watch Dirk," he continued.

"There's always something happening when he plays.

"Some players just show up and act like the perfect son-in-law, but that doesn't bring much excitement.

"There are too many Littler fanboys right now, so it would be great to see Dirk in the mix. He steps up to compete against him and does everything to win."

Meanwhile, the Premier League will resume on April 3.

Littler will take on Chris Dobey as he looks to extend his lead at the top of the table, with Michael van Gerwen poised to lock horns with Gerwyn Price.

Littler won night eight in Newcastle last week.

Speaking following his triumph over Luke Humphries in the final, he said: "I'm happy with my performances tonight, obviously drifted off towards the end.

"Feeling a bit tired but I'm just glad to get over that winning line in the final.

"Going into the semi-final I knew I was three or two 180's away (from 200), I think coming into tonight I was top on 92 and Humphries was second on 44 and it just shows how well my power scoring is.

"My normal throw that I was throwing with I just felt tired so I changed it up a bit.

"After the match Luke said he was tired but I just had to stick in there."

Littler then admitted that he could potentially now claim to be the best darts player in the world.

He continued: "I think that goes to show how everyone does say I'm the best in the world at the minute but you know me I'll never really say I'm the best in the world but I'm performing better than these guys so maybe I should be saying I'm best in the world. But we'll just see how it goes.

"For myself when I'm playing certain players I know when I've got them and it goes to show.

"Luke Humphries he shows a bit too much and as a player you're like he's at 60 or 41 and he's not happy about it then his next throw he is the same score so you just have to pounce.

"Last week I said I want to finish top again and go back-to-back and obviously I'm fighting for top and to break the nightly win record.

"I think I'm two clear than the rest of the lads that have won so the main goal is to win the fifth one and see what happens next."
