The 24-year-old won't be involved in the tour this winter

Harry Brook has withdrawn from the England squad for this winter's Test series against India for 'personal reasons'.

The 24-year-old was initially named in the squad for the series, which is due to commence on January 25.

But a statement has now confirmed that Brook will be flying home with 'immediate effect'.

England cricket said: "Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men's Test tour of India.

"He will not be returning to India.

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time.

"In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space.

"The England selectors will confirm a replacement player for the tour in due course."

Brook has enjoyed a stunning rise since making his Test debut back in September 2022.

The 24-year-old has scored an impressive 1181 runs from just 12 Test match appearances so far.

That has included four Test hundreds and seven half centuries.

And Brook also currently has an average of over 62.

He previously starred on England's tour of Pakistan last winter, scoring three centuries as they upset the hosts.

And Brook was a key player for England as they won the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022 as well.

Speaking last month, Brook revealed how he was able to cope with the pressure of being a cricket star.

"I've been off social media for a while now, anything I stumble across, I delete it from the phone," he said.

"I haven't really seen any negativity, I think that's helped my game, helped my mental health and everything to be off social media and seeing all the negativity that brings."

Brook also admitted he had been suffering from fatigue, too.

"I probably felt like I needed a little bit of a break after the World Cup, to be honest," Brook said.

"It wears you out. Obviously we didn't have a great competition as well, which didn't help.

"To have a little two-week break at home was refreshing.

"But I'm happy to be out here, to be honest. I feel like I've got some things I need to work on, especially in one-day cricket."

It is, however, currently unclear why Brook has returned home.

India and England have met each other 131 times in the traditional Test format.
