Arsenal beat Manchester City on penalties to win the Community Shield on Saturday.

After goals from Cole Palmer and Leandro Trossard, the match went into a shootout with Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri fluffing their lines.

There were scenes of joy among Arsenal players and staff members at the final whistle.

GB News now takes a look at five things we learned from the match at Wembley.

Havertz's finishing must improve

Arsenal paid a huge £65million to sign Kai Havertz earlier in the summer, with the Germany international joining from Chelsea.

As a result, big things are expected of the forward - who started at tip of the Gunners' attack with Gabriel Jesus out injured.

Havertz linked up well with his new team-mates but the 24-year-old's finishing must improve if Arsenal are to compete for the Premier League title again this season.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star missed two big chances in the first half, with Stefan Ortega twice denying him.

Havertz won't be Arsenal's first-choice striker for the most part this season - and his lack of composure in front of goal is exactly why.

Midfield debutants solid but unspectacular

Arsenal named Declan Rice in their starting XI for the first time since the midfielder's huge £105m move from West Ham.

And the England international was solid if unspectacular during the match, preventing City from dominating the middle of the park.

Rice also linked up well with Thomas Partey and those two players will be key as Mikel Arteta looks to steer his side to a first Premier League title since 2004.

For City, Mateo Kovacic was given his debut.

It's still too early to say whether the former Chelsea star will be an upgrade on Ilkay Gundogan, however, with the Germany international leaving for Barcelona earlier this summer.

New Premier League rule causes annoyance

Much is being made of the new Premier League rule with regards to the amount of added time that gets added on.

But another rule, one which hasn't been spoken about nearly as much, concerns players coming back onto the pitch after being forced to come off due to injury.

Arsenal star Martin Odegaard was briefly forced out of the proceedings.

And he was then irked that he had to wait at least 30 seconds before coming back on.

New guidance states that must be the case and it'll be interesting to see which teams suffer when it's implemented frequently during the new season.

Haaland is human after all

Erling Haaland was outstanding for City last season, scoring a remarkable 52 goals from 53 appearances across all competitions as Pep Guardiola's side won the treble.

But this was a rare bad day at the office for the Norway international.

Guardiola decided to be bold by deploying Haaland up top along with Julian Alvarez.

Yet their partnership clearly needs work, with City normally having just one centre-forward instead of two.

There's no point writing off Haaland just yet, however. He failed to score in the Community Shield last season as City lost to Liverpool - but then stepped up and produced when it really mattered.

Arsenal now have foundation to build on

Arsenal were widely mocked after failing to win the Premier League title last season.

But the Gunners did well against City and Arteta will be delighted with his side's triumph.

Arsenal have lacked mental strength in previous years yet the manner in which they responded to falling behind bodes well for the future.

It is, obviously, too early to draw big conclusions from the match.

But Arsenal now have a positive foundation to build on and it'll be interesting to see where they go from here.
