Watchers will be forced to download a new app instead

Sports fans have raged on social media after BT closed its popular sports streaming app, BT Sport.

The company announced back in July that BT Sport would be rebranding to TNT Sports - and that supporters will have to download a new app to enjoy live fixtures.

All sports will now be shown through the discovery+ app, which is free to download.

Customers who have been using BT Sports until Thursday will need to create a discover+ account in order to keep streaming.

The old BT Sport App will automatically update to become the TNT Sports App, which will bring free news and results.

However, fans have now blasted the decision on social media with many unhappy at discovery+ and the streaming quality on the platform.

"Is discovery+ the worst app to watch on, especially sport, the BT app was far superior!!!" said one user.

"The Discovery+ app is not good. Can't believe they're killi g off the BT Sport app to force people to use it," said another.

A third said: "The Discovery Plus app is such a downgrade from what BT Sport offered. Hopefully improvements are made."

A fourth vented their fury by saying: "The BT Sport app was bad but the @footballontnt @tntsports app is just worse."

Another commentor raged: "Champions League coverage is terrible.

"I know BT Sport was a challenge but how can we now watch a streaming service from the Discovery plus App that continually flickers and freezes."

Another couldn't contain their anger, ranting: "@discoveryplusUK can you fix this **** app please?

"Haven't been able to watch anything!

"It will be a sad day when the BT Sport App closes down."

And a fellow user on X said: "Shame the app makes it unwatchable with all the buffering.

"Had to redownload BT Sport just to watch it.

"It's going to be a nightmare once that app shuts down for good."

TNT Sports are showing all Champions League matches so far this season.

And the five British teams involved into the competition have experienced mixed fortunes so far.

In Group A, Manchester United have lost their opening two matches to Bayern Munich and Galatasary.

If they fall to another defeat against Danish side Copenhagen then they'll be all but eliminated from the competition.

Arsenal hammered PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in their opening match of the tournament.

But they lost to Lens last time out and face a tricky match against Sevilla later this month.

In Group E, Celtic have lost their first two games to Lazio and Feyenoord.

Newcastle, who are back in the competition after a 20-year absence, have beaten Paris Saint-Germain and drawn away at AC Milan.

Yet defending champions Manchester City have experienced no issues so far, cruising past RB Leipzig and FC Crvena zvezda to secure successive victories.
