The American duo are set to battle it out in a professional fight in Texas

Jake Paul has been mocked on social media after he confirmed that his bout with Mike Tyson will be a professional fight.

Rules for the July contest have finally been confirmed and many fans have given a brutal reaction to the news.

Former YouTube star Paul and ex-heavyweight champion Tyson will battle it out in Texas on July 20 in a clash which will be streamed on Netflix.

Fans were left in the dark about whether it would be an exhibition, with Tyson having not fought professionally since 2005.

Tyson will be 58 at the time of the fight, over 30 years older than his opponent.

But it was announced on Monday that it would be regarded as a professional bout and appear on each fighter's records.

There will be a maximum of eight two-minute rounds, with 14oz gloves used instead of the usual 10oz.

Knockouts will be allowed but head guards will not be used despite rumours suggesting they were being considered.

Paul made the announcement on X on Monday, writing: "Mike Tyson wanted it to be a pro fight.

"Netflix wanted it to be a pro fight. So I agreed to make it a pro fight. Winner takes all."

But X users were not happy and made that clear in the replies to Paul's post.

One wrote: "It’s not a pro fight. He’s 60. 14 ounce gloves. 2 min rounds. That’s just embarrassing for everyone involved. Netflix included."

Another put: "I can’t defend this man. This should be an exhibition."

A third put: "You do understand that you're a loser in this fight no matter the outcome? This was a mistake."

Many fans believe Tyson will get the better of his younger opponent.

One wrote: "Will be an easy KO for Mike, you won't last more than 2 rounds."

Another posted: "Respectfully, I think the question should be 'How badly will Jake Paul lose?' But respect for being willing to fight Tyson in a pro fight."

Paul was also mocked for agreeing to fight an opponent at Tyson's age.

One user wrote: "You don’t get no points for fighting a 60 year old bro!"

"Over the past six weeks, MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul Vs Tyson and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point.

"MVP has championed fighter choice since its inception, including advocating for women’s boxing to be contested with 2 or 3 minute rounds based on the particular fight matchup.

"Paul vs Tyson and Taylor vs Serrano 2 will both be contested with 2-minute rounds and each mega-fight will have its winner.

"Thank you to the TDLR and Holden Boxing for their efforts throughout this process to date and we look forward to working closely with them as we approach fight night."
