Boxing legend George Foreman has died at the age of 76, his family confirmed.

The two-time heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025.


Foreman, who later became a successful business entrepreneur, was known for his participation in some of boxing's most iconic matches.

His death marks the end of an era for the sport, where he competed for three decades between 1967 and 1997.

"Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones," Foreman's family announced on Instagram.

The statement described the boxing icon as "a devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather".

His family added that he "lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose".

No cause of death was given in the announcement.

Foreman's boxing career began at a young age, learning the sport at 16.

By 19, he had claimed Olympic gold, showcasing his extraordinary talent early on.

His rise to prominence continued when, at just 24 years old, he defeated Joe Frazier to claim the world heavyweight championship.

This victory cemented his status as one of boxing's most formidable competitors.
