The bout, which had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, has been called off

Floyd Schofield has been withdrawn from his scheduled fight against Shakur Stevenson in Saudi Arabia this Saturday following concerns about alleged poisoning.

The 22-year-old American boxer's father shared a worrying video of his son in a hospital bed, accompanied by the caption "God got our back."

And he's since told talkSPORT that 'someone tried to kill' his son following the incident.

The world title challenger was pulled from the bout by the British Boxing Board of Control after failing to appear at Tuesday's media commitments.

The withdrawal came amid online rumours of poisoning, with leaked text messages suggesting Schofield had been "spiked."

The incident has cast a shadow over the high-profile Saudi Arabia card, which features Joseph Parker vs Daniel Dubois and Dmitry Biviol vs Artur Beterbiev 2.

Schofield had initially arrived in Saudi Arabia as planned and participated in Monday's media events without incident.

However, the situation took a turn when leaked text messages, allegedly received by his father, claimed the boxer had been "spiked."

The young fighter subsequently failed to appear at his Tuesday commitments.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn had initially expressed optimism that the fight would proceed as scheduled.

These hopes were dashed when the British Boxing Board of Control made the decision to withdraw Schofield from the contest.

Schofield Sr took to social media to express gratitude for the support received in Saudi Arabia.

"I would like to thank everyone for their prays. I also would like to thank Your Excellency for the hospitality and great support," he wrote on X.

He specifically praised their host RaKan, who "has been amazing" and remained at the hospital with them.

The boxer's father later posted cryptically: "People are going to feel dumb when they see the proof."

He added: "People fear Floyd and this just made him more focused. Karma is very real All things will be revealed in time."

The posts were interspersed with requests for prayers for his son.

Boxing chiefs are now seeking a last-minute replacement for Schofield on the Saudi Arabia card.

British fighter Josh Padley has emerged as a potential candidate to face Stevenson, according to Saudi-owned Ring Magazine.

The turn of events marks a stark contrast to Schofield's earlier optimism about the bout.

Speaking earlier this week, Schofield had said: "It's a very huge opportunity. I'm ready to take the opportunity by storm."

"I'm just going to go out there and do my best," he had added, before the alleged poisoning incident derailed his championship aspirations.

The search for a replacement fighter continues as the event draws closer.
