The boxing promoter has opened up on last night's heated incident

Chris Eubank Jr. sparked chaos at a boxing press conference by hitting rival Conor Benn with an egg, with Eddie Hearn left furious.

The boxing promoter later revealed he initially thought Eubank Jr. had struck Benn with a glass object "in his eye".

The confrontation quickly escalated into a scuffle on stage with security forced to intervene.

Both Conor Benn and his father Nigel were reportedly furious about the egg attack.

The incident has heightened tensions between the two camps ahead of their scheduled bout, which is due to take place on April 26.

During the melee, Hearn was seen shoving promoter Ben Shalom on stage.

Hearn later clarified he was actually trying to reach Eubank Jr., not targeting Shalom specifically.

"Just to get him out of the way," Hearn explained about the shove.

"I wanted to go to Chris Eubank, because I thought it was a b***h move."

Shalom appeared to be standing innocently when he received the push from the visibly agitated Hearn.

The Matchroom Boxing promoter remained visibly upset even after the initial confrontation had been contained by security personnel.

Hearn explained his strong reaction stemmed from concern about the nature of the projectile.

"I thought it was a glass. It shattered everywhere," Hearn said.

He described feeling compelled to intervene after seeing Benn "whacked around the face with an object in his eye."

The promoter was particularly angered by what he perceived as the premeditated nature of the attack.

"When you carry something on the stage to hit them around the face with, I went mad on him," Hearn admitted.

He later described Eubank as a "premediated guy," adding: "That's what he does."

Hearn also accused Eubank Jr.'s entire team of being complicit in the egg incident.

"He's got someone to buy him an egg. He's gone up on the stage, everybody on his team knows what he's about to do," he claimed.

The Matchroom promoter was adamant the stunt had been planned in advance.

"I don't like the way it was planned," he stated firmly.

Shalom denied any prior knowledge of Eubank Jr.'s intentions.

"I told him [Shalom] that you knew about it and he said, 'I swear I didn't know about it,'" Hearn recounted.

The 45-year-old appeared unconvinced by Shalom's denial despite his seemingly believable response.

The boxing supremo has also taken to social media to call for extra precautions to be put in place ahead of Thursday's press conference.

"At the presser on Thursday, we have to have precautions in place because if Conor and Nigel see Eubank, it's on," he warned.

The promoter remained frustrated about what he viewed as a calculated provocation.

"I wasn't going to have a fight but I wanted to go talk to people because I believe they knew what was going to happen," Hearn explained.

The egg incident has clearly intensified the already tense relationship between the rival boxing camps.

And whether tempers boil over on Thursday remains to be seen.
