Chris Eubank Jr caused mayhem when he slapped Conor Benn with an egg during their face-off

Chris Eubank Jr sparked chaotic scenes at a press conference in Manchester on Tuesday evening when he slapped rival Conor Benn with an egg during their face-off.

The shocking moment came after a heated exchange between the two fighters ahead of their highly-anticipated bout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26.

Security officials were forced to intervene as Benn attempted to retaliate following the slap.

The incident quickly went viral on social media, with footage showing Eubank Jr cracking the egg on Benn's face before the pair were dragged apart.

The face-off had followed an already tense press conference where both boxers had traded verbal barbs.

Benn immediately took to social media to express his fury over the incident.

"That's the only shot you'll land on me you f***ing p***k," he posted on X. "2 rounds you are finished @ChrisEubankJr."

Security officials had to physically restrain Benn, who was visibly enraged by Eubank Jr's actions.

The altercation took place at Manchester Central Auditorium in front of a packed crowd.

Video footage of the egg slap quickly spread across social media platforms.

The incident marked a dramatic escalation in hostilities between the two British fighters, who have been exchanging insults for months.

The egg appeared to be a deliberate reference to Benn's failed drug tests from 2022, which derailed their originally planned bout.

Benn tested positive for the banned substance clomifene, forcing the cancellation of their October 2022 fight.

The WBC later cleared Benn in 2023, stating that an "elevated consumption of eggs" was a "reasonable explanation" for his adverse finding.

Eubank Jr has repeatedly pressed Benn on the failed tests during the build-up to their rescheduled fight.

Benn was only recently fully cleared to box in Britain, with his suspension lifted last November after the UK National Anti-Doping Panel deemed that UKAD had not "sufficiently proven its case".

The press conference had been heated from the start, with both fighters exchanging personal insults.

Benn targeted Eubank Jr's relationship with his father, saying: "Chris can say what he wants, but the bottom line is his dad don't even like him."

He added: "You could not pay that man enough money to sit in this man's corner. Now that's an accomplishment, Chris. Most unlikeable geezer on the planet, even your own dad don't like you."

While Nigel Benn was present at the press conference, Chris Eubank Sr was notably absent.

The promoters also clashed, with Eddie Hearn and Ben Shalom trading barbs about the negotiation process.

The fight will take place at the middleweight limit of 160lb, with both boxers agreeing not to gain more than 10lb by Saturday morning.

A rehydration clause has been set at 170 pounds for the same-day weigh-in, a point of contention during negotiations.

The bout will revive their families' historic rivalry, coming more than 30 years after their legendary fathers fought.

Chris Eubank Sr defeated Nigel Benn in 1990, before they fought to a draw in 1993.

The April 26 event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is being billed as "Fatal Fury: City of Wolves" and will be Ring Magazine's first-ever boxing card in London.
