Harley Benn has opened up ahead of this weekend's bout

Conor Benn's half-brother, Harley Benn, has opened up on losing touch with his family as his sibling prepares for Saturday night's blockbuster boxing bout with Chris Eubank Jr.

Harley has lost touch with his father, former boxing star Nigel Benn, as the showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rapidly approaches.

That means he won't be present in north London this weekend as Benn and Eubank Jr prepare for the showdown of their lives.

Harley revealed last year that he'd distanced himself from his family.

Now, speaking to The Sun, he's emotionally insisted that his relationship with Nigel was always 'rocky' away from the ring - which is why he's 'at peace' with the duo losing touch.

"The relationship was sort of was rocky away from boxing," he said.

"It would have taken a lot more than boxing to fix it on both sides and I cut my dad off last year. That's how it is at the minute.

"I'm more at peace with how I was when I was younger in my early 20s, it used to affect me, having a rocky relationship with my dad and everyone coming up to me, 'Oh your dad's amazing, your dad's this, your dad's that.'

"OK, yeah, he's an amazing boxer, but he has not been a good dad to me, so it was hard to hear that and people screaming his praises at me.

"And I was like, yeah, he was an amazing boxer, one of the most entertaining boxers I think Britain's ever seen, but when it comes to our relationship, it's a whole lot deeper than boxing."

Harley then elaborated on his relationship with Conor, insisting that they've never really got on.

"I mean, my dad, it's one of them. I'm grateful for the life that he gave me," he continued.

"There's a lot going on that could be fixed, might not be fixed, but me and Conor?

"I'll be honest, it would just be fake if we were to get on.

"We come from completely different places, we don't value the same things and if I'm honest, he probably doesn't see me as a brother and I don't see him as a brother unfortunately, but it is what it is."

Nigel left Harley's mother, Lisa, before he was born.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Conor was raised in Majorca and Australia, with those years shaping him into the boxing star he is today.

As for Harley, however, he's experienced a different background.

He grew up in East London with his mum Lisa and little sister Leyla and only got into boxing at the age of 20 to lose weight.

Harley also expressed a belief that his half-brother was jealous of his old relationship with Nigel, which may explain some of the issues between the two.

"I don't think Conor liked my dad with me at all," he said.

"And I've really tried with Conor in the past, but I know Conor wants to be the only son of Nigel that is boxing, wants all the limelight.

“But I'm genuinely not fussed about all of the limelight. I mean, he's having what I would call probably the biggest British fight since Benn-Eubank.

“And the thing is, I wish him nothing but the best in that. So Conor's always had his back up against me.”
