Chris Eubank Jr's father hit out at his son's decision to fight Conor Benn this weekend

Chris Eubank Jr's promoter Ben Shalom has responded to Chris Eubank Sr's criticism of his son's fight against Conor Benn after becoming emotional when asked about the controversial

"It was [disappointing], but ultimately he has his own opinions and it is what it is," the Boxxer chief told BetFred.

He emphasised the need to keep personal matters separate from the fight itself.

"I didn't like the personal stuff, I think that should stay out of the way," Shalom added.

"Chris Eubank Jr is focused on his fight, he has his team, he's ready to win and the personal stuff has got nothing to do with the fight."

Eubank Sr has firmly declared he will not attend his son's highly anticipated fight against Conor Benn this weekend in London.

The boxing legend strongly criticised the upcoming bout, particularly regarding the weight disparity between the fighters.

"I will not be an accomplice to their stupidity, their circus," Eubank Sr told Seconds Out. "It's against the rules what is happening, 147lbs fighting 160lbs is against the rules."

The fight was originally scheduled for October 2022 but faced a dramatic postponement after Benn failed a drug test.

Benn was subsequently suspended while an investigation took place, though he maintained his innocence throughout.

He attributed the positive test for female fertility drug clomifene to an 'over-consumption of eggs'.

Following a two-year battle with the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD), Benn was eventually cleared, paving the way for the fight to be rearranged.

Tensions between the fighters have already boiled over during their first face-off, when Eubank Jr slapped Benn with an egg, triggering a brawl on stage.

The animosity between the two fighters echoes the historic rivalry of their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr, who faced each other in two legendary battles in 1990 and 1993.

The upcoming clash represents the next chapter in this longstanding feud between the two boxing families.

The fight is set to take place this weekend in London, with tensions expected to reach boiling point between the two fighters.

The strained relationship between Eubank Sr and his son was highlighted by their recent first conversation in two years, which took place at Harlem Eubank's fight with Tyrone McKenna in Brighton last month.
