Chris Eubank Jr missed weight by a fraction and was handed a huge fine as a result

Chris Eubank Jr has failed to make weight for his highly anticipated fight with Conor Benn, resulting in a hefty $500,000 (£375,000) fine.

Despite the weight issue, the blockbuster clash will still go ahead this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Eubank Jr weighed in at 160.05lbs on his second attempt, just marginally over the 160lbs middleweight limit.

Benn, meanwhile, comfortably made weight at 156.4lbs, coming in nearly four pounds under the limit.

The Brighton boxer arrived over an hour late for the behind-closed-doors weigh-in, turning up at 12:10pm when he was scheduled to arrive at 11am.

His first attempt saw him register 160.2lbs on the scales but even after a second try, Eubank Jr could only get down to 160.05lbs, resulting in the six-figure fine as per the weight clause in their contract.

"The weight is painful, I'm in pain right now. I'll be in even more pain tonight and tomorrow morning," he said.

When he finally arrived for the weigh-in, there was a tense 15-minute wait before media were asked to leave the room.

Eubank Jr then took to the scales away from the cameras.

Both fighters will participate in a ceremonial weigh-in at 6pm on Friday night.

Both fighters must now weigh no more than 170lbs at a second weigh-in at 8am tomorrow morning.

Failure to meet this rehydration clause could result in financial penalties of up to £1million.

Eubank Jr revealed the severity of the situation, saying: "I can change my mind at any time but it will cost me a substantial amount of money. I don't want to lose $1m."

He added: "They are paying me a separate fee to restrict my weight gain and rehydration. I was never going to do it for free."

The blockbuster clash was originally scheduled to take place in October 2022.

However, the fight was cancelled just days before after Benn failed a drugs test.

The British fighter has since had his suspension lifted and is now cleared to compete in the UK.

Benn is moving up two weight classes from welterweight for this fight.

Eubank Jr is a natural middleweight who has previously competed at super-middleweight (168lbs).
