Roy Jones Jr revealed the devastating news of his son's suicide in a post on Instagram.

Boxing icon Roy Jones Jr has released a heartwrenching statement revealing his son DeAndre tragically took his own life at the weekend.

The 55-year-old took to social media to announce the devastating news in an emotional post.


"Unfortunately my son DeAndre took his life Saturday," Jones wrote.

"I'm so thankful that god allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family.

"I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and god should be the one to take it away.

"Please respect our privacy while my family and I process this loss. Thank you for the love and support."

DeAndre was the youngest of three children that Jones Jr shared with his wife Natlyn.

He was understood to have been 30 at the time of his death.

Jones Jr's post on social media was flooded with tributes from some of his fans paying their respects.

Swedish boxer Badou Jack wrote: "I'm so sorry bro."

Canadian boxing starlet Joseph Brown posted: "Prayers for you and your family."

Former WBO middleweight world champion Andy Lee said: "I’m very sorry for your loss Roy. My heart goes out to you and your family."

MMA's Sergio Pettis replied: "My condolences Roy sending love and prayers."

Caleb Plant simply posted a purple heart emoji to show his condolences.

Olympian and multiple world champion Claressa Shields said: "Praying for you & your family."
