The two fighters will lock horns on February 17

Tyson Fury's father wants his son to use a different 'style' when he fights Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.

The Gypsy King is currently training as that showdown creeps closer, with the 35-year-old eager to silence his critics.

Fury was widely condemned for his performance during his narrow victory over Francis Ngannou back in October, having been knocked down in round three of that fight.

Many, including his father John, feel he has a point to prove.

And the 59-year-old, talking to Boxing Social, feels Fury must use a different style if he's to get the better of Usyk next month.

“He needs a different style altogether with Usyk, he’s totally different," he said.

"If you go back to, many years ago, you can watch it on the internet, it’s Gerry Cooney-Michael Spinks and Michael Spinks is a blown-up light-heavyweight weighing just over fourteen stone at the time.

"Gerry Cooney is six-foot-seven, eighteen stone, look what happened.

"These are speed-men, you just can’t have that straight-up, going forward, looking to land a bomb on these kind of fighters because guess what?

"They can see it coming and they will avoid it.

“Usyk is very good, he is a good mover, he’s got a brain, he’s got good footwork and the style for Deontay Wilder and Francis Ngannou isn’t going to cut it for a man like Usyk.”

Fury, for his part, seems to be taking the fight seriously.

The Briton has cut a leaner figure than before in training pictures uploaded by one of his sparring partners.

And while there's been talk of a potential delay, the fight remains on course to take place next month.

Plenty will be on the line when the two men step out in Saudi Arabia.

But something, most likely, will have to give.

As for John, the 59-year-old previously said that he'd noticed a 'decline' in his son.

"For my money, his last three fights, I have seen a bit of decline," he said in November.

"Not a decline in ability but a decline in strength, power and physical condition.

"I don’t know what they are doing up there, you have to address it. He didn’t look himself out in Saudi.

"He didn’t look right, everything had changed about him, his demeanour, his body.

"I was puzzled. He said he had been training but there is training and there is training.

"If you’re going at your own pace no one is going to tell you otherwise, no one is going to offend you or kick you up the backside.

"No one can teach Tyson how to box, or teach him more than he knows.
