The duo will do battle in Texas on November 15, having originally been due to fight earlier this year

Mike Tyson will only be assessed the day before his fight with Jake Paul in a new twist, according to reports.

The 58-year-old plans on going ahead with the controversial bout, despite many fans and pundits unhappy that the showdown is going ahead due to the huge age gap between the two men.

Tyson's health is also a big talking point, with the boxing icon previously suffering an ulcer flare up earlier this year.

Netflix reportedly fear a 'catastrophic ending' to the clash, while many other figures have expressed concerns for Tyson's safety.

According to World Boxing News, Texas Licensing Regulators won't actually assess Tyson until the day before his return to the ring.

That new twist means there's a possibility the clash could be cancelled at the last minute, when many spectators will have already flocked to Texas to watch the action unfold.

If anything goes wrong the fight may even be downgraded from a professional one to an exhibition.

Tyson insists he's raring to go, however, with the boxing legend eager to add to his legacy.

Should he beat Paul, it will please many who dislike the 27-year-old.

Yet Paul, despite being a controversial figure, can't be underestimated - having won 10 of his 11 fights so far.

His most recent clash was against Mike Perry, with Paul knocking out the 32-year-old MMA specialist in July.

As for Tyson, his last fight was an exhibiton with Roy Jones Jr in 2020 - with that battle ending in a draw.

Eddie Hearn, meanwhile, believes the upcoming showdown is a 'freak show'.

He's also adamant not one 'boxing person' wants the fight to take place as November 15 creeps closer.

“So they’re looking at it from a different angle, they’re looking at it from numbers, they’re looking to it for hype and I get it.

"I understand that this freak show may well do good numbers.

“But, I think if you genuinely care about the sport and the history of the sport and particularly the legacy of one of the greatest fighters of all time, it’s not something you’d ever consider.
