The revelation comes after Canelo was reportedly in line to face Paul on May 3 in Las Vegas, before the deal dramatically collapsed.
The boxing legend explained that the potential fight had become a topic of conversation among his daughter's friends.
"Maybe her friends told her about the fight," Canelo said.
"Because the fathers of her friends told them and everything talking about it - because they don't know anything about boxing."

He added: "That kind of people don't know anything about boxing and they think Jake Paul is really good fighter. Which he is a fighter, but it's levels in boxing.
"I think it's for that fact that people don't how boxing works."
Paul, 28, was reportedly close to securing a blockbuster deal to face Canelo, 34, in a 200lb cruiserweight clash at the T-Mobile Arena.
However, Canelo walked away at the last minute to sign a lucrative four-bout deal with Saudi Arabia's Turki Alalshikh.

The Mexican champion will now return to the ring on May 4 in Riyadh.
This will mark his first fight outside of Mexico or America, with the veteran poised to face William Scull in a super-middleweight undisputed title decider.
Canelo expressed no regrets about his decision, saying: "I'm very happy. Things happen for a reason and I'm happy with this and I'm gonna enjoy it as much as I can."
LATEST SPORTS NEWS:
Following his bout with Scull, a super-fight against Terence Crawford, 37, is planned for September.
Canelo would have lost the opportunity to face Crawford if he had proceeded with the Paul showdown.
Despite Paul's growing profile, with 11 wins and just one loss, Canelo struggles to view a potential matchup as a legitimate contest.

"Calling it a fight is very difficult for me, man. It's for me more like event more than a fight and this is not the moment," he said.
Paul recently generated controversy by bringing Mike Tyson out of retirement at 58, with their Netflix bout attracting 100 million viewers.
Canelo hasn't completely ruled out a future Paul event, though his priorities clearly lie elsewhere.
