The Gunners lost 1-0 at St James' Park with Anthony Gordon netting the only goal of the game

Screams were heard from the Arsenal dressing room after they watched back Anthony Gordon's goal following their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday, according to reports.

The Gunners went into the game having not lost a single Premier League match this season.

But their unbeaten run was controversially ended with Gordon netting the only goal of the game in the 64th minute.

Arsenal were furious that the goal was allowed to stand, with players complaining on the field.

They felt there was an offside involved, while also believing the ball went out of play in the build-up and there was potentially a foul on Gabriel.

VAR had already been scrutinised for chalking off a Scott McTominay goal in Manchester United's 1-0 win over Fulham earlier in the day.

And Arsenal have made it clear they're livid at the officials for awarding Gordon's goal.

According to The Chronicle, screams were heard from the Gunners' dressing room as players watched the footage back following the contest at St James' Park.

Arsenal also feel Bruno Guimaraes should have been sent off for elbowing Jorginho, too.

And David Raya confirmed Arsenal's dressing room was an unhappy place in the wake of the result.

"What I could see was the ball went out of play, and then after going to the dressing room, looking back at the goal, it’s a big foul on Gabriel," he said.

"He’s pushing him with two hands on his back when he’s about to clear the ball.

"On the other hand, it could have been an offside position, that’s harder to see.

"But the ball out of play and the foul is a massive decision that’s just going to cost us some points.

"We’re really frustrated. The way we played, the way we competed, it was brilliant from everybody.

"We did what the gaffer asked us to do; win duels and get the ball up the pitch and everything, but decisions have taken a goal."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was also enraged and vented his fury in an interview with Match of the Day.

He said: “If there was a team looking to win the game today it was Arsenal.

"Embarrassing what happened - how this goal stands, in the Premier League - this league we say is the best in the world.

"I've been 20 years in this country and now I feel ashamed.

"It's a disgrace and there's too much at stake here.

"We are trying to do incredible things and be at the highest level each week.

"When we're not good enough I hold my hands up and take responsibility.

“The outcome is nowhere near the level this league needs to have and the way this league is getting competed in.

“It's not good enough here in the Premier League. I feel embarrassed to be part of this."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, meanwhile, insisted Gordon's goal 'looked good' to him.

“We are in the dark, we are standing by the side of the pitch seeing VAR on the screen but with no pictures," he said in the immediate aftermath of the match.

“I have not seen anything other than what I saw at the time. It looked a good goal to me.”
