Zara Tindall has narrowly escaped serious injury after a horse landed on her during a photoshoot at Australia's Magic Millions Races.

The royal, 43, was knocked to the side during the PR event on the Gold Coast when one of three horses she was posing with suddenly reared up.

The dramatic incident occurred whilst the Olympic silver medallist was fulfilling her duties as an ambassador for the prestigious racing event.

Despite being visibly shaken, the daughter of Princess Anne managed to jump away just in time to avoid severe harm as the horse came down hard on her shoulder.

The incident unfolded during a beachside photoshoot, where Zara was holding the reins of two horses whilst posing with three mounted horses.

Video footage shows the royal initially beaming with a smile as she managed the animals.

Without warning, a third horse suddenly reared up and lurched forward, coming down heavily onto her shoulder.

The jockey attempted to regain control of the startled animal as Tindall was knocked sideways.

Crowds who had gathered at Surfers Paradise to catch a glimpse of the royal witnessed the frightening moment.

The incident occurred shortly after Zara and husband Mike had been photographed enjoying the sunny Gold Coast beaches.

This latest equestrian scare adds to a series of recent horse-related incidents within the Royal Family.

Just six months ago, Princess Anne suffered a concerning head injury after being kicked by a horse, leaving the Princess Royal with memory loss and a bruise under her left eye.

The 74-year-old was briefly hospitalised with minor head wounds and concussion before returning to royal duties.

In September, Zara herself took a tumble at the Burghley Horse Trials in Lincolnshire, falling from her horse Class Affair at Rolex Corners.

Though knocked out of the competition, both Zara and her horse emerged unharmed from the incident, which occurred in front of her husband and three children.

Zara has been a prominent figure at Magic Millions since becoming its first Racing Women Ambassador in 2012.
