Zara and Mike Tindall will never be able to achieve complete separation from the Royal Family, a former aide has claimed.
The 43-year-old is a talented equestrian and former Olympian, having made a successful name for herself in the sport. She is also believed to have earned about £15million from her business interests.
Meanwhile, her husband Mike is a rugby union legend who has amassed a similar sum through various ventures, from his appearance to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here to his recent launch of a brand of gin.
Sources close to the Tindalls have pointed out that she and her husband have always been meticulous about ensuring that they stay well clear from the public purse, instead opting to pay their own way in life.
However, despite their personal successes, the £30million power couple will never be able to completely shake off their associations to the Royal Family, it has been claimed.
A former royal aide explained: “There has to be an element of realism about this. It is hardly somebody’s fault if their mother or father is a close relative to the monarch and that attracts interest.”
However, they stressed that Zara’s personal character has made her the success that she is today.
“The point I would make about [Zara Tindall] is that she is a successful woman on her own terms and without that she would have attracted none of these arrangements. The same goes for Mike Tindall,” they added.
ROYAL LATEST:
“My sense would be that they give at least as much back to the Royal Family in terms of profile and approachability as they take away from it.”
Zara and Mike are reportedly being eyed up for a role in the Firm, with insiders stating that the couple has been flagged as “PR gold dust”.
Despite being 21st in line for the throne, a recent YouGov poll put Zara consistently as the sixth most popular royal and the eighth most popular public figure, ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in ninth and Queen Camilla in eleventh.
One former adviser said: “Mike and Zara Tindall are rarities in the sense that they’re the sort of royalty that people think they could have a pint and a laugh with in the pub, or a quick chat in the supermarket about the best pizza.
“You can see from the Palace’s point of view, it would make perfect sense to have them in a more engaged role. They would be PR gold dust.”
Zara’s mother, Princess Anne, decided not to give her children any titles, a move the 43-year-old praised. “I was lucky my mother didn’t give us any titles, so I really commend her on that,” she said.
“We were very lucky that we got to do things a bit our way.”
