Thomas Markle has suffered a blow as Meghan claimed she grew up on "fast food and microwave dinners".

Meghan, 43, has revealed she grew up eating "fast food and microwave dinners" as a "latchkey kid" in her new Netflix show.

The Duchess of Sussex made the admission whilst speaking with her friend Mindy Kaling.

"I was a latchkey kid, so I grew up with a lot of fast food and TV tray meals," Meghan said.

She added: "It feels like such a different time, but that was so normal with the microwavable kids meals."

During her conversation with Kaling, Meghan also disclosed her fondness for popular fast food chains.

She revealed she enjoyed Taco Bell and Jack in the Box during her childhood.

Kaling appeared surprised by this admission from the Duchess.

"People wouldn't believe that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box," Kaling quipped in response.

While Meghan did not explicitly state which of her divorced parents provided these meals, the context suggests it was likely her father, Thomas.

This becomes apparent as elsewhere in the Netflix series, the Duchess spoke highly of her mother Doria's cooking abilities.

In one segment of the show, Meghan is seen preparing chilli oil for dumplings whilst reminiscing about her mother.

"Even at a young age, we didn't have a lot, but we travelled. My mum was a travel agent," she shared.

The Duchess revealed that her love of spicy food originated from these early travels with Doria.

"We would just try so many different flavours in different places," she explained.

Meghan fondly recalled her mother's cooking prowess: "My mum would make gumbo and soul food that has a lot of flavour and a lot of kick to it. I crave that. And I always gravitate to that level of heat."

The show featured a previously unseen childhood photograph from a mother-daughter holiday.

Meghan has been estranged from her father, Thomas, 80, since her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

The rift began when Thomas posed for paparazzi photographs ahead of the royal wedding.

He was subsequently unable to attend the ceremony due to suffering a heart attack.
