The Crown made a subtle nod to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry through Queen Elizabeth II in the first episode of season six.
The sixth season of the popular Netflix series dropped today, which saw stars Imelda Staunton and Elizabeth Debicki portray Queen Elizabeth II and Diana, Princess of Wales respectively.
The first episode, titled Persona Non-Grata (meaning an unacceptable or unwelcome person), centres on Diana’s new life as a divorced member of the Royal Family and no longer an HRH (Her Royal Highness).
Staunton can be seen chatting to actor Bertie Carvel, who portrays former Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Crown.

Princess Diana, Prince William, and Prince Harry had just spent a weekend playing football with Tony and Cherie Blair and their children at Chequers.
The actor portraying Tony Blair explained to Queen Elizabeth II that Diana still wanted to perform public duties.
Carvel said: “She feels strongly that she still has a lot to offer the country as a public servant. And a lot of energy.
“If you take her recent work on landmines, two years ago, a global ban on landmines was considered impossible.
“Now, almost a hundred countries have agreed to sign a treaty outlawing them. When Diana talks, the world listens.”
Staunton, as the late Queen, simply replied: “Yes.”
The former Prime Minister added: “She wanted to know if I, that is, the government, could find a way to harness her gifts on a more formal basis.
“And that any official role I… we... might offer would be enormously, uh, appreciated.”
The late monarch with a blank expression stated: “I always say it’s hard to be half-in anything. You’re either in or out.
“You yourself will know the difference of being in government or out.
“Whilst she’s mother of the boys and, in that respect, always welcome at the palace, as a divorced woman and no longer an HRH, Diana is now learning the difference between being officially in the Royal Family, and out.”

The phrase “You’re either in or out” was a clear message to Prince Harry and Meghan from the creators of The Crown.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex intended to “step back as senior royals” when they released their original statement in January 2020.
However, it was decided by Queen Elizabeth II and the wider Royal Family that the couple could either be full-time working royals, or they would have to become private citizens, lose their HRH titles and no longer accept taxpayer-funded royal security.
Harry and Meghan subsequently moved full-time to North America where they are now raising their children Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, away from public life.
