The Crown began streaming on Netflix in 2016 starring Claire Foy and Matt Smith

The Crown dropped its final six episodes today and fans took to social media to discuss the season finale.

The last scene saw all three actresses who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II reunite to help Imelda Staunton's character decide whether or not to step down as the monarch.

This meant Claire Foy, who played the Queen in the first and second seasons, and Olivia Coleman who played the late monarch in seasons three and four, returned to the Netflix hit show.

One royal fan posted on Twitter: "In tears. What an ending. #TheCrown."
