The Duke of Sussex said last month he would 'never' bring his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, back to the UK

Sussex ally Oprah Winfrey has come to the UK, despite Prince Harry labelling it "too dangerous" for Meghan Markle.

The Duke of Sussex told ITV in an interview in July that he would "never" bring his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, back to the UK, out of fears for her safety.

The couple stepped down as working royals in 2020, and Meghan, 43, has not returned to the UK since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

Prince Harry is currently fighting for his automatic police protection to be reinstated, so that he may bring his family to the UK in the future.

Despite the duke's comments, the couple's pal Oprah Winfrey has been enjoying a carefree spree in London.

The billionaire chat show host, 70, looked relaxed as she posed for pictures on Bond Street this week.

Fellow US TV host Gayle King, 69, joined Winfrey for her trip to the UK.

Winfrey and King both attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding in 2018.

In 2021, Winfrey famously interviewed Meghan and Harry after their decision to step down as working royals.

The interview made headlines across the world, with the duchess claiming that Princess Kate "made her cry", allegations that an unnamed royal raised "concerns" over Prince Archie's skin colour, and Meghan saying she contemplated suicide.

After the interview, Buckingham Palace released the following statement: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

"While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

During Winfrey and King's trip to London, they were joined by film director Ava DuVernay, 52.

The trio watched actor David Oyelowo perform on Tuesday's first night of Shakespeare's Coriolanus at the National Theatre.

Oyelowo, 48, described Winfrey as a mother figure to him after they starred in the 2013 film The Butler.
