King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark are celebrating their milestone 20th wedding anniversary on Tuesday.

The couple marked the special day with a new photo of themselves smiling on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog as they kicked off their two-day state visit to Norway.

The King and Queen of Denmark wore matching Yeti blue vests and jeans and stood with their arms behind each other’s backs for the adorable photo.

The caption of the post read: “In a few hours, the royal couple will arrive in Oslo and begin a state visit to Norway after Their Majesties sailed from Denmark yesterday on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

“The arrival in the Norwegian capital also takes place on a very special day. It is the King and Queen’s 20th wedding anniversary.”

Frederik and Mary will be reunited with King Harald V and Queen Sonja from May 14 to 15 along with Norway’s future King, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who the couple share a good relationship with.

Julia Melchior previously spoke to GB News about the relationship between the Danish and Norwegian royals.

She said: “For the Danish King and Queen this is not just an official appointment but the meeting of their closest friends.

“King Frederik was the best man to Crown Prince Haakon at his wedding in 2001. The royal couples of the three Scandinavian monarchies are very close.”

The King and Queen of Denmark married in 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral after announcing their engagement the previous year.

The Danish prince met his Australian-born wife at the Slip Inn pub in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics.

The couple share four children: Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

During a gala banquet for Frederik’s 50th birthday in 2018, Mary gave an emotional speech about her husband where she “moved him to tears” in front of guests and television cameras.

Mary closed her speech with the words of a song stating: “This is the space my heart wants to be.”

On Tuesday, Frederik and Mary will be welcomed to Oslo in an official ceremony before attending a wreath-laying service to commemorate victims of the Second World War.

They will then meet with the Norwegian president, have lunch at the royal palace and visit the Oslo Science City Organisation.
