Dominic West was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as Prince Charles in The Crown

The actor that played King Charles in The Crown has admitted that he would be keen to play a different member of the Royal Family if there was another series of the hit Netflix show.

Dominic West, 54, said that he would like to play the role of the King’s great-great grandfather if there was a show that went deeper into the history of the Royal Family.

The King’s great-great grandfather, Edward VII, was King of Great Britain and Ireland, the British dominions and emperor of India from 1901 until his death in 1910.

West joked at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday that it was hard to go back to his life as a non-royal since the show had ended.

He said: “It is not easy. You get used to people bowing to you, and then you go home and your kids, no one's bowing anymore.

“It's not an easy thing to give up. I'm going to miss him.”

West does not believe his role as Prince Charles will ever be reprised because writer Peter Morgan does not want to bring the drama into the present day.

West told the Mirror: “I don’t think Peter (Morgan) will do that. We can’t get too close to the present day.”

The actor revealed that Morgan is more likely to cover someone like Edward VII, the eldest child of Queen Victoria, adding: “I’d love to play him!”

West missed out on winning a Golden Globe in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series category to Succession’s Kieran Culkin on Sunday.

In an interview, West talked about how surprised he was at the success of The Crown series saying: “I was amazed how widespread it is. It’s very big in Colombia. It’s very big in Egypt. Saudi loves it, Ireland loves it, which I was quite surprised at.

“I know Ireland pretty well and it’s big in Ireland. You do these junkets and you realise actually the reach of it is bigger than you think.”

Debicki’s portrayal of the late Princes of Wales’s ghost sparked controversy and was criticised by many royal commentators.

In a two-star review, Anita Singh of The Telegraph said that the “Netflix jewel hits a dead end” as the season finale is “haunted by Princess Diana’s bizarre ghost.”

Singh argues that the portrayal of Diana’s ghost “on the plane home from Paris to comfort a distraught Prince of Wales, and on the sofa at balmoral to give the Queen some friendly PR advice” sounded “like desperation on the part of writer Peter Morgan.”
