The Duke and Duchess of Sussex named their daughter Lilibet in 2021

Buckingham Palace aides “celebrated” as Queen’s feelings on Meghan and Harry's decision to name their daughter Lilibet were revealed, according to new sources.

A royal source said that Buckingham Palace was “relieved” that “the truth” about the row between the family was released in a new biography.

A biography about King Charles III by Robert Hardman claims that the late Queen was furious that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to name their daughter Lilibet in 2021.

Meghan and Harry said that they had asked the Queen for permission to use her nickname for their child, but this was later disputed by Palace sources.

Hardman claims that a royal aide said that the Queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” over the naming row.

The late Queen is claimed to have said: “I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings, the only thing I own is my name. And now they’ve taken that.”

The nickname “Lilibet” dates to when the late Queen was a toddler and could not pronounce her full name “Elizabeth," so her family started to use the affectionate nickname.

A royal source claimed: “There’s no denying it is pleasing that the truth has emerged. [Harry and Meghan] attempted to railroad their version of events through, which weren’t accepted then and they are not now.

"You’ll find the silence [from the Palace] speaks volumes, but everyone is quietly celebrating this particular wrong being righted.”

In 2021, a royal source told the BBC that the claim that Harry and Meghan had asked the Queen for permission to name their child Lilibet was false.

But a representative for Harry and Meghan fought back on these allegations calling them “defamatory.”

The spokesperson said: "The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement - in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called.

"During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honour. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name."

In the new biography, Hardman also mentions that Buckingham Palace are worried that Prince Harry will write a sequel to Spare.

Hardman said: “For the Palace, the most worrying aspect of the book was the omission of large chunks of more recent events.

Harry and Meghan’s wedding, married life and their departure from the royal world amounted to less than a fifth of Harry’s memoir. This suggested a sequel.”

The Palace have not commented on any of the book’s claims.
