Royal Family name member of the Firm who will replace Queen Camilla amid health scare

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.

“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.

“She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

The Duchess of Gloucester will step in on the Queen’s behalf to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

Birgitte, 78, is a Danish-born member of the British Royal Family.

She is married to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The duchess is a hardworking member of the Royal Family, having carried out 111 engagements in 2023.

Camilla has also pulled out of a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes hosted by the King the same evening.

It is understood the Queen is currently resting at home.

No further details regarding her illness or treatment have been released but she is understood to be under doctors’ supervision.

The year 2024 has been riddled with health scares for the Royal Family.

Both King Charles and Princess Kate were diagnosed with cancer towards the beginning of the year.

Sarah Ferguson also battled skin cancer, shortly after undergoing a mastectomy for breast cancer.

In addition, Princess Anne was hospitalised for five nights in June after suffering a blow to the head by a horse on her Gatcombe Park Estate.
