The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have pivoted away from publicly speaking about the Royal Family over the last year

The Royal Family are prepared to sanction the removal of Prince Harry and Meghan's Sussex titles if the couple release further damaging bombshell claims about the monarchy, according to a royal source.

The Duchess of Sussex hit out at the Firm in a 2021 TV interview with Oprah Winfrey just over a year after she stepped down as a working royal.

In January 2023, Prince Harry released his autobiography titled 'Spare' which provided intimate details about his relationships and arguments with senior members of the Royal Family.

It would take an Act of Parliament to take away the couple's Sussex title, but according to the Mail, a royal source has said it is still considered a potential sanction that could be explored if any further bombshell interviews or books are released.

It comes as Meghan appears to have sent a "warning shot" to the Royal Family regarding her Sussex title.

The duchess made her feelings clear during a filmed exchange with American actress Mindy Kaling for her new Netflix series.

She promptly corrected her guest, insisting: "It's so funny you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I'm 'Sussex' now."

After her correction, Meghan explained the title's significance: "I didn't know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, 'This is our family name. Our little family name'."

Meghan further emphasised the importance of her title in her only print interview promoting the series.

She told People that the Sussex name now held deeper significance than she had anticipated before becoming a mother.

"It's our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn't recognised how meaningful that would be to me until we had children," she said.

Referring to her husband and children, Meghan added: "I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me."

She concluded that the Sussex name "is part of our love story".

A royal insider told the Mail that Meghan's emphasis on the Sussex title was "clearly a warning shot".

The source suggested she was making a very public point about how much the title meant to her and, by implication, to Prince Harry.
