Queen Camilla gave a health update on King Charles amid the monarch's cancer treatment.

Camilla, 76, attended the Queen's Reading Room Festival over the weekend, where she spoke to author Lee Child about her husband.

The Queen joked to Child that King Charles was "doing fine", but that he "won't slow down and won't do what he's told".

The author quipped back that the King sounded like a "typical husband".

The King was initially hospitalised at The London Clinic in January, for corrective surgery to treat an enlarged prostate.

Following the surgery, it was announced that King Charles, 75, had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and would undergo treatment.

In the immediate weeks and months after the operation, Charles stepped back from public-facing duties and focused on behind-the-scenes work.

However, in April it was announced that the monarch would return to public-facing duties.

Last week, Charles undertook his first foreign visit since beginning cancer treatment, with a trip to Normandy to honour the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The monarch plans to attend the Trooping the Colour festivities this weekend, a major event on the royal calendar.

One concession is that Charles will arrive in a carriage rather than on horseback, as he did last year at his first Trooping the Colour as sovereign.

Queen Camilla's recent health update was not the first time she joked about her husband’s impatience amid his recovery.

At a Buckingham Palace palace garden party in May, Camilla joked that Charles was "getting better".

However, she later added: "Well, he would be if he behaved himself."
