The Duke of Sussex flew back to the US on Thursday afternoon

Prince Harry was set to arrive back in California on Thursday night after staying in Frogmore Cottage - without seeing his family, it has emerged.

The Duke is not believed to have seen his father, the King or his brother, the Prince of Wales during his brief visit to the UK to give evidence for his High Court phone-hacking case against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).

Harry spent three nights in Britain, but followed what has become standard practice by dashing back to the US, opting not to extend his stay any longer than necessary.

He was accompanied by just his security team and stayed at his Windsor home for what is likely to be the last time.

The King evicted the Duke and Duchess from Frogmore Cottage at the beginning of the year, just days after the publication of Harry’s memoir, Spare.

Meghan and Harry were given until early summer to vacate but are not thought to be planning to return to the UK in the coming weeks.

The Duke spent last Sunday celebrating his daughter Princess Lilibet’s second birthday with his family before travelling from Los Angeles to London overnight.

This meant he failed to attend the opening day of his claim against MGN in court, and was handed a rebuke from the judge.

Justice Fancourt said he was “a little surprised” that his directions had not been followed after instructing his legal team that the first witness should have been available on Monday.

Harry then appeared in court to undergo eight hours of intense cross-examination where he admitted had been “a lot”.

He left the court shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, as he waved to onlookers while being driven away in a black Range Rover.

It is believed the Duke boarded a flight back home on Thursday afternoon, keen to get back to his family “as quickly as possible”.

The quick dash home mirrors a similar speedy exit following his father's Coronation last month, when he headed straight to the airport from Westminster Abbey.

In March, Harry made an unannounced appearance at the High Court in relation to his legal claim against the publisher of the Daily Mail over alleged unlawful information gathering.

But on that occasion, the King was said to have been too busy to see his son.

On Wednesday, as his younger son returned to the witness box - the first senior royal to do so in more than 130 years - His Majesty presented honours at Buckingham Palace to members of the Army who were involved in Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

The Duke made no attempt to see his brother, Prince William following various personal revelations made in his memoir and interviews.
