Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark have shared a rare royal selfie on Instagram following their attendance at Prince Harry's Invictus Games in Vancouver Whistler.

The Danish royal couple, who now reside in Washington DC, posted the casual snapshot on Saturday whilst supporting their nation's veterans at the international adaptive sports tournament.

The image showed the royal pair, aged 55 and 49 respectively, sporting Team Denmark Invictus gear with enthusiastic supporters visible in the background.

"Thanks for this time, InvictusGames," the couple wrote beneath their selfie on the Danish Royal House's official Instagram account.

Their personal message continued: "It was a great and life-affirming experience! We are incredibly proud of our participants and their accompanying families and friends."

The selfie marks an unusual move for the Danish Royal Family's social media presence, though it matches the friendly spirit of the Invictus competition.

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie attended the Games on Friday and Saturday, participating in Danish team training sessions and showing their support from the stands.

The couple spent time with athletes and their families behind the scenes during their visit.

A notable moment came when they had a courtside chat with Prince Harry during a sitting volleyball match on Saturday.

The pair's presence was announced in advance, with the Danish Royal House emphasising their commitment to veterans' causes.

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie currently live in Washington, D.C. with their children, Count Henrik, 15, and Countess Athena, 13.

The couple relocated to the United States in the summer of 2023 when Prince Joachim took up a new position at the Danish Embassy under the Ministry of Defense.

"The presence at the Invictus Games is part of The Prince and Princess's continued commitment to veterans," the Danish court said in a statement.

The royal pair have previously connected with Prince Harry around Invictus, meeting in Copenhagen in 2017.

The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 ran from February 8 to 16, marking the tournament's first venture into winter sports.

More than 500 competitors from 23 nations participated in events across Vancouver and Whistler.

Prince Harry, who founded the Games in 2014, expressed his enthusiasm about the Canadian location, telling PEOPLE: "It's incredible to be back in Canada. Canada couldn't be more appropriate to host the first Winter Games. Everyone is so excited."
