Queen Mary has driven back critics as she stepped out for her second appearance within the space of a week.

The King and Queen of Denmark were recently criticised for going on holiday for the second time since their accession to the throne.

But the Queen has sprung back since her return from holiday by undertaking royal engagements in Denmark.

On Sunday, Mary made a solo appearance as Denmark’s Environment Minister Magnus Heunicke opened a Deer Park in Copenhagen.

The royal looked country chic as she stepped out in a light brown roll-neck jumper by Polo Ralph Lauren covered with a Hunter green waistcoat.

She matched the outfit with a wide-brimmed grey hat, brown trousers and Penelope Chilvers’ cropped tassel boots.

The Queen was seen chatting to staff at the Deer Park and looking around the site before making a speech.

This marked Mary’s second appearance within a week; the Queen visited the Freedom Museum in Copenhagen to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the National Guard on April 3.

The Australian-born royal looked elegant for this appearance in a navy trench coat as she visited the museum shortly after returning from a holiday abroad.

Queen Mary and her husband the King were last seen in public together on March 21 for the Frederik 10 – King of Tomorrow exhibition at the Amalienborg Museum.

A royal commentator told GB News that the holiday caused a stir amongst the Danish public.

Julia Melchior said: “The Danish media have reported that many people are displeased that the Royal Family is on holiday for the second time since the succession.

“It is being observed meticulously that the royal diary hasn’t shown many activities since the succession.

“Also, since the succession to the throne, the Royal Family has gone on holiday twice.”

However, Melchior spoke up for the family saying that “the King explained in his book 'Kongeord' that time-outs are important to him and his family.”

She said: “It’s still early because there haven’t been many opportunities for them to present themselves as King and Queen.

“Of course, a large part of the King and Queen's work takes place behind closed walls. So, the fact that they do not work in public does not mean that they do not work at all.”

There was speculation that the Queen may not have even travelled on holiday with her family after the flag over their mansion in Amalienborg remained raised over Easter.

This means that either Frederik, Mary or their son Crown Prince Christian stayed in the residence over the holidays.

Melchior added that one this is clear, and that is “the Danes want to see their new King and Queen.”
