Queen Margrethe II formally abdicated today after 52 years on the throne in Denmark.
The new King Frederik and Queen Mary left their home at Amalienborg today, alongside their eldest son Crown Prince Christian in a Rolls-Royce.
Queen Margrethe II rode behind in a carriage from Christian IX's Palace, Amalienborg to Christiansborg Palace.
She was escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment.

Queen Margrethe, Frederik and Crown Prince Christian then joined the Danish Government, Council of State Secretary in the Council of State for the formal transfer of power.
At this point, Frederik officially became King frederik X of Denmark. The former Queen then returned to Christian IX's Palace, Amalienborg by car.
Frederik and Mary, the new King and Queen, are expected to hold a small reception for "specially invited" guests.

King Frederik X is expected to address the crowd.
A special cannon salute will celebrate the occasion, and the national flag will then be lowered and raised again at the royal palaces.
Afterwards, the new King and Queen will ride in a carriage from Christiansborg Palace to Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment's mounted squadron.
Royal fans can later expect the transfer of the royal colours from Christian IX's Palace to Frederik VIII's Palace.
