The Queen launched her book reading club in 2021 during the pandemic

Queen Camilla promoted a book about the Royal Family being held hostage in her online book club.

The Queen, 76, launched her book club titled The Queen's Reading Room in 2021, where she discusses her literary favourites.

She made a surprising choice by choosing to promote The Lords' Day by Lord Michael Dobbs.

The thriller explores themes of love and devotion after powerful people, including the Queen and the Prime Minister, are taken hostage at the State Opening of Parliament.

Lord Dobbs, known for writing House of Cards, shared that he sent the novel to the royals on a whim.

When it was announced on the Queen's bookclub lineup, the author called it an "unexpected" but "wonderful" twist.

In 2007, The Lords' Day shared faults in parliamentary security, which led Dobbs to be accused of lending ideas to terrorist organisations.

However, the Queen has recognised the book 16 years later, alongside national favourites by the likes of Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, and Ian McEwan.

Dobbs shared that he sent a copy of his book to King and Queen via his publisher.

He told The Telegraph: "I thought it would be rather fun."

Regarding Camilla's decision to include the book, Dobbs added: "I think it shows how inclusive and open-minded she is.

"This isn't a fussy traditionalist; this is a Queen who has got her eyes open to the modern world."

Her Majesty is a book fan who often uses her royal role to promote reading.

Queen Camilla's Instagram book club, which boasts 167,000 followers, was set up after she shared some of her favourite books during the pandemic.

It has since become a charity and launched its own annual literary festival at Hampton Court Palace. It will be held again next year on June 8.

Now, the Queen has launched an eight-episode podcast series to further discuss her literary favourites.
