Princess Micheal was sent these letters by Monsignor Ralph Brown, an eminent priest who died in 2014.

Eden suggests that Brown would "have been mortified by their sale" as he was helping Princess Michael secure a Roman Catholic blessing for her marriage to Prince Michael.

Princess Michael of Kent is a member of the British Royal Family who is of German, Austrian, Czech and Hungarian descent.

In 1971, she'd married Old Etonian banker Tom Troubridge at Chelsea Old Church, but only after they'd had "a blazing row" in the vestry.

They divorced in 1977, and she hoped Pope Paul VI would permit her to marry Prince Michael in a Roman Catholic ceremony.

Six years later, in 1983, her marriage to Prince Michael was finally blessed in a Roman Catholic ceremony.

Princess Michael of Kent was an interior designer before becoming an author, writing several books on European royalty.
