Princess Eugenie recalled "the best moment" she shared with her cousin Zara Tindall in an emotional new statement.

The Princess of York, an avid fan of the Olympic Games, took to social media to share her favourite memories from when London hosted the event in 2012.

Eugenie captioned the post: "The Olympics is one of the best things in our world.

"It’s such a special time watching superhuman athletes represent their countries, bringing people together and inspiring generations.

"Some of my most favourite memories from 2012 was being on the sidelines cheering on our heroes.

"Not to mention, the best moment of all, watching my family win silver in eventing, goooo Z!

"Tag me in your Olympics pictures, I LOVE seeing them and resharing."

The letter "Z" is a reference to Zara, 43, a professional equestrian who won a silver medal during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Princess Eugenie, as well as her older sister Princess Beatrice, Princess Kate, Prince William, Prince Harry and Queen Camilla all attended to watch Zara compete.

The mother-of-three was awarded her silver medal by her mother, Princess Anne, as she is President of the British Olympic Association and a Member of the International Olympic Committee.

The Princess Royal was the first member of the Royal Family to have competed in the Olympic Games.

She rode the late Queen Elizabeth II's horse, Goodwill, in the equestrian three-day event at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.

Zara followed in her mother's footsteps by competing in the same equestrian three-day event at the 2012 London Olympics.

However, she has not competed in any of the Games in the years since.

In an interview in 2022, Zara admitted she was hoping to make the cut for Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

However, the wife of Mike Tindall failed to make the final squad.
