Queen Elizabeth II made an iconic appearance but did not inform her family

Princess Eugenie has issued a touching tribute to her grandmother, the late Queen, and shared a moment that left the wider Royal Family stunned.

The Royal Family had no idea Queen Elizabeth II would appear in the James Bond sketch during the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony, according to the Princess of York.

Eugenie claimed "nobody knew" that an actress playing Queen Elizabeth would be "skydiving" into the Olympic Stadium alongside an actor playing Daniel Craig.

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast with Kate Thornton, the 33-year-old said "it was amazing" to see her grandmother embrace the funny sketch.

She said: "We were all surprised!

"She was just one of the best people in the world.

"Her sense of duty and dedication and her love of her people, it really happened in public like you all saw, and it happened in private with us.

"We learnt how to do things from her as well, how to talk to people, how to stay strong and dutiful and kind, she really instilled in us."

In terms of her immediate family, Eugenie gushed over her mother, Sarah Ferguson, and her older sister, Princess Beatrice.

The mother-of-two shared she calls Beatrice for "nearly everything".

In addition, she praised the Duchess of York's charitable work.

Eugenie added: "She's founded a charity herself and built schools and went around the world... her example is definitely something I live by."

Last week, the princess interviewed former Prime Minister Theresa May on her own podcast, Floodlight.

She visited May in her parliamentary office in the House of Commons to promote Anti-Slavery Day.

The former Prime Minister sits on the advisory board for Eugenie's charity, the Anti-Slavery Collective.
