The Princess of York and the Duchess of Sussex will not be joining the Royal Family in Sandringham for Christmas

Princess Eugenie showed a subtle sign of solidarity with Meghan Markle in her latest outing.

Eugenie, 34, arrived at Buckingham Palace for the royals' pre-Christmas lunch in the passenger seat of a car beside her husband, Jack Brooksbank.

The mother-of-two wore a black trench coat and her hair tied up in a relaxed style.

Princess Beatrice's younger sister wore a pair of earrings by Sophie Lis, known as the "Fallen Star Hoop Earrings".

Priced at £460, they feature a floating star charm in the shape of the North Star, a symbol of guidance and direction.

According to the website, "it can represent good luck, good health, faith, success and protection from evil amongst many other things."

The earrings are set in 22-carat gold vermeil with white diamonds.

The Duchess of Sussex has the same earrings and wore them in 2020 during her last public engagement as a working royal.

Prince Harry's wife wore the jewels when she met with Commonwealth Scholars at Buckingham Palace before the Commonwealth Day Service that year.

Eugenie may have been showing a subtle sign of solidarity with her cousin's wife, especially following reports that she was invited by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to California for Christmas.

The Brooksbanks were reportedly considering spending time in the US closer to the new year so that their children, August, three, and Ernest, one, could spend time with their cousins, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

However, it is likely that Eugenie and Jack will now spend Christmas in the UK with Jack's widowed mother, Nicola Brooksbank, 71.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are avoiding Christmas at Sandringham for the first time in several years.

The princesses are understood to have made the decision to spend Christmas with their respective in-laws, having not had the chance to do so for several years.

In addition, their parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson will also not be joining the Royal Family for Christmas at Sandringham.
